On the eve of Independence Day in 1951, Sam Snead captured his third and final PGA Championship title, defeating Walter Burkemo, 7 and 6. The 33rd PGA Championship was conducted at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club, which first hosted "Glory's Last Shot..." in 1922, with Gene Sarazen winning his first PGA Championship. |

A new Patriot Golf Day Public Service Announcement (PSA), produced in cooperation with the United States Golf Association, aired during the U.S. Open. The PSA features Ginger Gilbert, widow of Maj. Troy "Trojan" Gilbert, who was shot down in 2006; and Matthew and Christopher Cash, sons of Capt. Christopher S. Cash of the U.S. Army National Guard, who was killed in action in 2004. This PSA will also air on more than 1,100 television and cable networks nationwide during the month of August and during CBS Sports' broadcast of the 90th PGA Championship.
In 2007, Patriot Golf Day raised more than $1.1 million in under two months. Patriot Golf Day 2008 is scheduled for Aug. 29-Sept. 1.
